More about the admission committee

My recent “inside the admission committee” post seemed pretty popular, so I thought I’d share a little more about us — the people at the University of Richmond who are reviewing and discussing your applications! Again, there are 13 of us on the committee…

9 of us have memorabilia from our college alma maters in our offices.

11 of us enjoy reading applications with different colored pens to spice things up.

5 of us haven’t read anything besides college essays since November.

9 of us know at least 5 area codes in our recruitment region by heart.

11 of us prefer talking to texting (big surprise!)

5 of us prefer the beach; 8 of us prefer the mountains.

10 of us have attended a UR sporting event this year.

7 of us remember experiencing writer’s block working on our college essays.

8 of us went to a public high school.

5 of us actually majored in the field(s) we checked on our college application.

I am wondering about when Richmond Scholar notifications are going out. This is to either those who made the cut or those who did not.
Are they going out all on one day? Or are they rolling? This week or next?

Notifications have begun going out, but the timing can vary a little bit depending on the faculty committees. All students will be notified within the next week or so, whether or not they advance.

Does Richmond ever send out “likely letters?”

I’m not familiar with the concept of “likely letters” (which probably means the answer is no)…. could you clarify, 2014Mom?

Yes, I guess that probably means you don’t:)
Some selective admissions colleges (e.g. UVA send out letters to very strong applicants that let them know they are very likely to be admitted. I think it is a way to increase the number of strong admitted students that will ultimately enroll.

Thanks for the clarification! No, we don’t send any sort of “likely letter” – though being selected as a Richmond Scholars semi-finalist is usually a pretty good sign that you’re looking strong in our pool. But there are plenty of strong applicants who aren’t RS semi-finalists, so most everybody just has to wait until good ol’ April 1.

Hello! I have got a question about notification of admission letters: has the University of Richmond already started to send them to the applicants or not?

We’re not on any type of rolling system, so all of our admission letters will be sent at the same time. For regular decision, our notification date is April 1 – you should hear from us by then.
