Post-Deadline Update

By Tom

Well! The application deadline is behind us, and I’m sure many of you are feeling relieved (at least somewhat) to be done. Now comes the next phase of the college application process: waiting. I remember well those long months of February and March during my senior year – trying to dive in and fully enjoy my final semester of high school, but at the same time waiting anxiously to find out what I’d be doing with the next four years of my life. My advice: be patient, and enjoy the ride.

For those of you who applied within the past few days, here’s the deal: because of the large numbers of applications coming in just before the deadline, it will take us a week or two to process through most of them and get them on file. Once your application is processed and in the system, you’ll receive an e-mail confirming that you have applied; this will be followed, about a week later, by a letter in the mail with instructions on how to check the status of your application. (We never post decisions online, but you can see what we’ve processed and which pieces we still need to receive.) You can feel free to contact us at any time with questions, but please be conscious of the fact that it may be a few more days before you receive confirmation of your application.

For those of you who applied by the Richmond Scholars deadline in December, hold tight – the admissions and faculty committees are still reading many of those files. Students who are selected as semi-finalists will be notified by the end of January at the latest.

In other news, there is an upcoming Financial Aid online chat for your parents, so be looking for an e-mail invitation sometime next week. Remember, the FAFSA and Richmond Financial Aid Supplement will be due on February 15. And, if you’re a student who has a passion for community service and want to continue that commitment in college, be sure to check out our Bonner Scholars program (application also due February 15). You can find more information here.

And that’s the news for today! We’ll keep you posted, and, as always, feel free to respond anytime with questions.
